Testing Service of Allergen Ingredients in Food
Adverse reaction from certain foods or food ingredients, especially the allergic phenomenon caused by the intake of food which has no adverse reaction for most people is called food allergy. The survey shows that 1%~2% of adults are allergic to food throughout the world and more than 8% of children under the age of three are allergic to food. Clinical symptoms of food allergy are usually the reaction to skin, mucous membranes and gastrointestinal tract. It is life-threatening in severe cases. A 15-year-old British youth had allergy symptoms after eating Chinese pork ribs marinated by peanut butter on the day of death in June 2014. Around the world, incidence and prevalence state of fool allergy have shown a gradual increasing trend and have become an emerging public health issues.
For decades, Europe and America countries have promulgated numerous laws and regulations on this issue. The American Food Allergen Labeling and Consumer Protection Act coming into force on January 2006 stipulates that eight categories of food allergens containing milk, egg, fish, crustacean/shellfish, tree nut, wheat, peanut, soybean, etc. must be labeled. The European Provision of Food Information to Consumers lists 14 kinds of allergens. Food enterprises are required to recall products, or even face criminal prosecution when allergen information is not labeled in accordance with the requirements. China is also aware of this issue. The new version of Standard for the Labeling of Prepackaged Foods issued by the Ministry of Health in April 2011 stipulates that food allergens are the part of prepackaged food labels.
